Will Green is a historian and public engagement specialist based in the UK. Originally from the West Midlands, Will undertook his undergraduate degree in English at the University of Winchester, before pursuing a master's degree at the University of Birmingham. He received his PhD from the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2021.
Will's interests lie in the history of theatre in medieval and early modern England, the political and social culture of readers and playgoers, and how academic knowledge can be effectively communicated to a wider interested public. He has a background in the heritage and tourism sector, having worked with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and (at a team leadership level) with Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall, being part of the original team when the latter first opened to the public in Stratford-upon-Avon in April 2016.
Will is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and a Fellow of Advance HE (formerly Higher Education Academy). He has previously taught at the universities of Birmingham, Warwick, and Nottingham, and regularly speaks at academic and public-facing events.
Testimonials
"Thanks to the research of Dr. Will Green, we’ve learnt more about the role that our building played as an early modern theatre venue, breathing fresh life into a previously underappreciated chapter of our Guildhall’s rich past."
- Dr. Lindsey Armstrong, General Manager of Shakespeare's Schoolroom & Guildhall, Stratford-upon-Avon
"In a town like Stratford-upon-Avon which, centres on Shakespeare for obvious reasons, [Will's] research reveals the bigger picture. Early modern theatre was so much more than just Shakespeare, and just the Globe."
- Dr. Anna Blackwell, Assistant Professor in the School of English, University of Nottingham
